My name is Esther and I am from New Zealand, at the moment I am living in the thriving metropolis of Dunedin situated in the deep south of the south island. Diving here has it good days, yet the majority of my memories flood with a soupy silt where I can barely see my hand in front of me. However, the good thing about where I live is that its not such a long drive to find somewhere decent to jump in for a dive.
I love the water and have been swimming and snorkelling since a young age, I tried to be cool and learn to surf... but that was just embarrassing.. When I discovered SCUBA diving I thought "this is amazing" and couldn't believe I wasted years flapping about on the surface when I could instead pretend I had gills.
So for me, the ocean kind of lead the way to my career path. I have been studying marine science and learning how climate change (in the next 50+ years) is gong to effect certain marine animals. I casually mentor primary and secondary school students in investigating marine related science experiments so they can see first hand the effects of climate change, such as a more acidic ocean!
So why vote for me? I would love to help make a difference in the world and believe I have the spirt and passion to do so, what I need is a little help to get me the rest of the way. Who can appreciate the ocean more than the people that dive in it! I would love to be an instructor to tell people facts, who won't just gaze at me with a blank look, but understand the importance of our actions and have first hand experience of how amazing the underwater would can be.
So please vote for me and come and join me to change the view of the ocean in the minds of many people....
